Workgroup MICR printers, 34 to 60 pages per minute

A workgroup MICR printer sits in the office with the people who run payroll or accounts payable. It prints checks on blank stock on demand, which is what removes pre-printed check stock from the building.

The five machines below cover a range from roughly 5,800 recommended pages a month at the desktop to 53,000 at the top of the class. Each one names the Ricoh engine it is built on, in order the Ricoh P 311, P 501, SP C840DN, SP 8400DN and IP C8500, so a service organization that already supports Ricoh hardware knows what it is taking on. Recommended monthly volume matters more than top speed when choosing: running a printer at its maximum duty cycle month after month is how a machine ends up out of calibration, and a MICR printer out of calibration is a bank reject report.

Compare the workgroup class

Recommended monthly volume is the number to choose on, not top speed. A printer run close to its maximum duty cycle month after month wears its fuser and drum faster, and worn components are a common cause of a weak MICR signal.

Tray capacity is what decides how often a run stops, and it is the specification most often overlooked.

Recommended monthly volumes. The IP C8500M, Pro 8410M / 8420M and Pro 8310M / 8320M figures are maximum monthly volumes. Maximum duty cycle is a survival rating. Running near it wears the fuser and drum, and worn parts weaken the MICR signal.

Every printer in this class is covered

If your bank reports a MICR quality problem, we investigate it. Where the problem is verified as caused by our materials or modifications and cannot be resolved, we reimburse the fees your bank charges for rejected checks over their acceptable rate.

Conditions apply, including the use of approved supplies, our MICR fonts, and continuous maintenance under an approved service plan.

Which workgroup machine fits your volume?

The class is decided by what you print in a month, not by the speed on the front of the brochure. Tell us the volume and we will tell you which one, including when the answer is a smaller machine than you expected.
