Installation

A printer that is certified before it prints your first check

Installation and MICR certification is a three-step process carried out by trained technicians. It is provided at no charge with all production MICR printer purchases.

The steps run in order for a reason. A survey weeks ahead settles the environment and the responsibilities, the conversion turns a standard print engine into a MICR-only device loaded with ProMark™ MICR toner, and the certification proves the output against ANSI specifications before your operators are handed the machine.

Included at no charge with every production MICR printer

  1. Pre-install survey

A site visit weeks ahead, with readiness documented.

  2. MICR conversion

The toner interface is modified and ProMark is loaded.

  3. Test and certify

Measured on a verifier, and operators trained.

What the third step measures

Signal strength, character shape, line placement and toner adhesion, tested against ANSI specifications on an RDM Check Verifier. Certified before it prints your first check, not after your bank complains.

Operators are trained on basic operation, TCRU usage and MICR fundamentals at the same visit.

The process

Survey, conversion, certification

Step 1

Pre-installation survey

Our specialists and Ricoh technicians conduct site visits weeks in advance. The visit defines which team is responsible for what, and identifies the environmental and application requirements through questionnaires and readiness documentation.

Step 2

MICR conversion

Our MICR implementation specialist makes the initial modifications to the toner interface, converting the standard Ricoh printer into a MICR-only printer. The specialist loads ProMark MICR toner and conducts initial testing.

Step 3

MICR testing and certification

Using an RDM Check Verifier, the specialist tests all output elements against ANSI specifications, then trains your on-site printer operators on basic operation, TCRU usage, and MICR fundamentals.

Before the truck arrives

Why the survey happens weeks in advance

The survey is where the environmental and application requirements are identified, through questionnaires and readiness documentation rather than through a conversation on delivery day. It is also where team responsibilities are defined, so nobody discovers on the morning of the install that a task belonged to the other side.

The conversion step that follows is not reversible in the way a driver setting is. The toner interface is modified and the standard Ricoh printer becomes a MICR-only printer, which is the point of buying it. That is a decision the survey is meant to have settled already.

The last step

Certified output, then trained operators

Tested against ANSI specifications

The specialist uses an RDM Check Verifier to test all output elements against ANSI specifications. That is a measurement of the document that comes out, not an inspection of the settings that went in, which is the only version of the test a bank reader/sorter cares about.

What the MICR line contains

Operators trained on site

Training covers basic operation, TCRU usage, and MICR fundamentals, given to the people who will run the printer rather than to whoever signed for it. Operators who understand why the paper path matters are the ones who keep the reject rate where certification left it.

The parts that wear

Certification is the start, maintenance is the rest

Certified output on install day is a measurement of one moment. Keeping it requires continuous maintenance under an approved service plan, which is one of the five conditions of the MICR Performance Guarantee.

Operator training is part of the installation rather than a separate visit.
