Consultation

A measurement of the setup you already run

Consultation addresses the technology-related issues surrounding MICR and IRD printing: the documents you produce, the paper you buy, and the process you are thinking about changing.

Most operations do not know their reject rate, because it arrives as a bank fee rather than as a report. An evaluation replaces that guess with something measured, on your own output and your own stock.

Three evaluations of a setup you already run

  1. Document evaluation

Signal level, E-13B integrity and spacing, line placement and adhesion. Evidence of due diligence if your bank ever questions output quality.

  2. Paper evaluation

Your chosen stock, run in our printers, before you commit to it. Answers whether the stock you want to buy works on the machine you have.

  3. Pre-purchase evaluation

Where MICR fits, what it automates and what it changes. Answers whether the purchase is worth making at all.

Three evaluations

The document, the paper, and the plan

What you are printing now

Document evaluation

We evaluate the output itself rather than the settings behind it, because the document is what a bank reader/sorter has to accept.

  • Signal level
  • E-13B character integrity and spacing
  • Line placement
  • Adhesion
What you are printing on

Paper evaluation

We test your selected paper in our printers to confirm it performs correctly with our equipment, before a pallet of it becomes a standing reject rate.

  • Your stock, our print engines
  • Tested before it goes into production
  • ANSI X9.18 governs check stock
  • A result that applies to your paper, not to paper in general
What you are considering

Pre-purchase evaluation

Our specialists advise on applying MICR in your operation, from automating a manual process to improving the financial outcome of the one you already run.

  • Where MICR fits in the current process
  • Which manual steps can be automated
  • What the change is worth financially
  • Advice given before the purchase order, not after
Why the result is worth keeping

Evidence for the conversation with your bank

A document evaluation checks signal level, E-13B character integrity and spacing, line placement, and adhesion. Those four are what a reader/sorter reacts to, so they are also the four a bank is implicitly describing when it questions your output quality.

Keep the results. If the quality of what you produce is ever questioned, an evaluation on file demonstrates due diligence, which is a different conversation from one where neither side has a measurement.

Ask for the current turnaround when you get in touch.

What a good reject rate actually looks like

Typical MICR toner in this industry rejects at 2% to 4%. Our ProMark™ MICR toner is independently tested at a 0.1% reject rate or lower on an IBM 3890 high-speed reader/sorter. An evaluation tells you which of those two ranges your current output sits closer to, and what in the print path is putting it there.
