It handles the three media types that matter for this work: perforated check stock, pressure seal, and IRD paper. Input scales from 1,200 sheets standard to 4,700 with optional trays and large capacity units, and output scales to 4,000 sheets with the 3,000-sheet finisher. Duplex runs at 100% productivity rather than the reduced rate a lighter machine gives you.
Five configurations exist: the base SP 8400DNM, a Secure model with locking trays, a Guardian model that adds a secure 320 GB hard drive and Locked Print, and IPDS and IPDS Secure models for host-driven environments. The MICR drum is rated at 160,000 impressions.

Service plans for this printer
A service plan has to be added at the time of purchase. It cannot be added later, which is worth knowing before the order goes in.
4-Hour Response
Monday to Friday, 8 to 5
We handle the first call and may dispatch a Ricoh authorized service technician to repair the device on site. Ricoh aims to arrive within four hours during normal business hours.
Not available on the SP 8400DNM: Exchange Warranty, 4-Hour Response, 24/7. All three plans compared.
Technical support is included with all plans. An exchange or a dispatch happens only where the issue cannot be resolved by telephone. Toner and consumables are not covered. A service plan must be added at the time of purchase.
