Four things that make this a short conversation

  1. Monthly volume, at your peak rather than your average. This is the number that decides the hardware, and averaging hides the month that breaks a machine.
  2. Your current reject rate, if you know it. Most operations do not, because it arrives as a bank fee rather than a report. Ask the bank for the exception count.
  3. Whether you print in color. Color production machines carry lower monthly volumes than monochrome ones, so this changes the shortlist immediately.
  4. Whether you also handle returned items. That is a separate product and a separate conversation, and it is easier to have both at once.
